Cannot sync contacts.

I am unable to sync contacts with OX Sync or by setting up ActiveSync. Is there a setting I am missing to make this work?

On macOS IMAP and CalDAV work fine. But syncing contacts is a problem:

  • CardDAV seems completely broken. It syncs fine from mailbox.org to macOS, but any changes in contacts on macOS result in changes not being synced back and overwritten by server or duplicate entries on the server.
  • I can configure ActiveSync for contact sync, but it does absolutely nothing.

It's disappointing that mailbox.org has not come up with a solution for this issue. It basically means that on macOS you have to work with the Webmailer.

I am having the same problem. Any update on this? Why is there a difference between how iOS and macOS handle the user configuration profiles?

According to mailbox.org support CardDAV broke on macOS 10.15.x and iOS 13.x. Mailbox.org is using Open-XChange under the hood and the broken CardDAV sync is part of Open-XChange. They said they have tickets pending with Open-XChange. But there probably won’t be a quick fix.

Meanwhile this is how I sync:

iOS 13.x

- use IMAP to sync mails

- use CalDAV to sync calendar and tasks

- use ActiveSync to sync contacts (and turn off all other ActiveSync synchronizations)

macOS 10.15.x:

- use IMAP to sync mails

- use CalDAV to sync calendar and tasks

- no solution to reliably sync contacts because CardDAV is broken and ActiveSync not supported.

As far as I can tell iOS 13 works fine including CardDAV contacts sync. I can set it as default Contacts address book, save, edit, delete contacts etc. Calendars and mail also sync with macOS Calendar and Mail apps. Maybe particular functionality is affected? I haven't checked everything in detail just basic sync.

Mail and Calendar also work under macOS Catalina but CardDAV is read only, and only shows one master "Global Address List" type of list, and not individual address books under the main Exchange account. Also, I cannot add/edit/delete contacts.

Is there anything else that you know is broken that I am missing? I am running latest iOS 13 and macOS Catalina releases (public, not beta).

I have newest update on Mac OSX Catalina, I do not use anymore Mail, Contacts and Notices.

Thunderbird works fine, with add ons, like contact, calendar and notices. This syncs very proper to Android FairEmail too))

Of course also Outlook, Protonmail...etc works.

I simple do not use anymore Mail, contacts, calendar and notices of Mac. All other works. I think you can change or wait until Mac updated this feature.

CardDav on MacOs BigSur seems broken as well :

  • all contacts are downloaded within 1 big folder
  • Mailbox cardDAV account can't be set as the default one
  • Can't delete contacts nor move them from another account (gMail for example) to Mailbox

Could you please investigate?

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It seems that this is a bug in Big Sur, since customers of other companies are complaining about this behaviour as well. Because of this we have to wait for Apple to fix this issue.
