Unable to pay with PayPal

When I press "Add" in the PayPal popup after clicking "Pay Now with PayPal" nothing happens. I know the account is good because I've used it before to purchase goods albeit for USD

The interface says the system doesn't accept payment from accounts secured only with credit card but I'm not sure what to check that against

I have a similar problem. Either my Paypal account or pay with visa card works when I try to add credit to my account. Both works without any issues at other services (last checked 3 days ago).

I don't get any message like "doesn't accept payment from accounts secured only with credit card".

The interface when I try to add funds via PayPal (where you can choose between multiple payment methods like bitcoin or cash by mail) states that they don't accept payment from accounts secured only with credit card due to increasing prevalence of fraud

I'm having the same problem. After introducing card details nothing happens and I get no message from PayPal saying what went wrong.

same here

I have talked to the Mailbox support. They suggested to do a additional verification by adding a bank account to PayPal. My account has already been verified, something else must be wrong.

Anyhow, in the end I did the payment via IBAN instead. It seams to me that Mailbox is not interested to investigate what is wrong with there Paypal integration.

I've talked to mailbox support, and the issue is clear: mailbox doesn't accept PayPal via credit card, it has to be from a bank account

This means, your PayPal account has to have a verified bank account to charge the fee against. If you don't have any, mailbox will reject the payment. Presumably, this is to protect against chargebacks

I think this confusion could've been avoided if mailbox states that they do not accept credit card instead of saying "only secured by credit card"

That explains things. Where I live, PayPal can't get money from a liked bank account (probably not allowed by law). Unless I have money on my PayPal balance, the payment is always done with my linked credit card.

Is it possible to make a payment to Mailbox with money on the PayPal balance?

Anyhow, Mailbox needs to be better to inform regarding Paypal payments.

Hi,

there have been many true explanations here, but let's explaine some more details.

We don't have to investigate what's wrong with Paypal, because there's nothing unclear and nothing wrong. Paypal had MANY problems with credit cards and put all the massive costs of that to the recipients (like mailbox.org), which was very expensive and inacceptable, And they changed their general terms and conditions about that.

If somebody (eg: crime people) cancel their credit card payments to Paypal, they go and get the money back from the recipient (which could be okay), but the also charge aus 7 to 10 USD credit card cancellation fees. On the other side, we have no chance to control what's going on there on the Papal side.

Right now, we can not accept payments based von Paypal credit cards. At the end, it's not us that's rejecting it, it's paypal, that's not willing it to do it if Paypal would have had to cover the abuse costs of that.

I think it should work if there is a positive balance on your Paypal account. But we don't know what Paypal is doing internally. Please ask Paypal.

We're working on "real" credit card payments (VISA, MasterCard, AMEX) to close the gap here.

In the meantime, we must ask you to pay with other payment methods or "safe" Paypal accounts and we we will find solutions for people that are really not able to use something else then Paypal based on Credit Cards.

This issue is confusing because neither side can fully confirm what exactly constitutes "safe" account

When I talked to mailbox support, the conclusion was roughly this:

1. You need to be verified

2. For PayPal payment, mailbox requires fund source from something that is not a credit card

When I talked to PayPal support, they said this:

After investigation, we can confirm that your account payment feature is working. If you are unable to send money, it may be for one of the following reasons:

  1. A problem with the system integrated into the merchant website.
  2. Unstable connection with the payment center system.
  3. Your network may be unstable.
  4. You may need to update your browser.

I told them that mailbox says I can't pay since my account is "secured only by credit card" and I asked them how to improve on that, but they also never expanded on it.

The best I got was when I got redirected to PayPal Indonesia when I used Private Browsing window to try paying without using a PayPal account (this comment https://userforum-en.mailbox.org/topic/pay-via-paypal-without-having-a-paypal-account#comment-411 indicates it's possible, though the card details wasn't described). Upon entering my credit card details I get an error saying "your card was rejected", though it didn't say whether it was PayPal or mailbox that rejected it, but certainly not my bank (I get "card issuer rejected this transaction" with a debit card)

Lastly, PayPal said this:

You could also contact the merchant and ask them to send a PayPal invoice to your PayPal account, then pay by invoice.

I'm not sure if it's different from the normal pay by PayPal interface which says mailbox system has prepared an invoice for me to pay with

It is very easy.

The account MUST NOT be covered by credit card.

The Paypal support is stupid and uninformed here. Paypal sent 8 month reminders and mails to their payment partners, explaining that they will shut down credit card covered payments. This is totally, absolut and 100% a legal issue and wanted behavior by Paypal.

Here is nowhere any kind of mistake, misbehavior, technical issue or something unclear expect that Paypal must explain their customers, that Paypal will not execute their payments when the recipient has not agreed the lastest changes in credit card terms and conditions.

Hi,

I do have both bank account and Credit Cards linked to my PayPal, still I get the following error on PayPal page.

"Please add a credit or debit card to complete your purchase."

Does not give me option to choose anything. Just a form asking me details of Credit Card. I try entering another credit card and I'm still on the same page with the same error message

@7271495 You have two options:

1. Add money to your Paypal balance and then make the payment (not sure if this works).

2. Choose another payment method.

A quote from Peer's post above:

"The account MUST NOT be covered by credit card. "

PayPal doesn't give me any option to add money to my account.

It does however allows to send money to any email address.

Does mailbox.org has an email to which I can send money to from PayPal?

I have a trial account that is going to expire soon. I want to keep the email address.

So it seems that there is STILL no option to pay via credit card and Paypal is not working (at least for me).

Any updates since the last discussion was several months ago.

In general: Paypal is working quite fine without any issues (expect that Paypal sometimes defers/hold/postpone payments because of their internal fraud/abuse investigations and then people falsly blame mailbox.org for not add the money to the account). I don't know anything about not-working Paypal payments for specific users. Feel free to open a ticket if you are really not able to pay with paypal (why? what happens?).

Credit Card payments are in interal alpha release this week and internal beta tests will/should start next week.

Once I click on the paypal button, a pop up screen appears and it does not move beyond the paypal circle.

Please check your firefox/chrome/browser-plugins. Normally there's "something" that blocks "something".

Thanks. Made some progress. I am using a prepaid virtual credit card that paypal won't let me use for this payment.

When do you think your CC payments will be rolled out to external users? Will it allow virtual CCs to be used?

Thanks for the help though. Appreciated!!

Any luck/update/progress with the CC payment option for individual external users?
