Managing alias address in separate inbox

I've never used alias addresses before and was thinking I could add them separately to my email client (Postbox) to function as separate accounts with separate inboxes. However my Mailbox login doesn't work if I try adding it as that.
Is there something I can do in my Mailbox account to allow this, or am I going to have to wait until Postbox add this as an option (if they do)?
One email account with aliases seemed much more practical than multiple accounts with multiple providers (my current situation), but I really need separate inboxes (and separate sent, drafts etc) to prevent admin overwhelm.
