Accepting appointment deletes email without prompt

When accepting or adding an appointment invite from an email to the calendar, the email is moved to the trash without prompting for confirmation, even when confirm email deletion is enabled. When this is done on an email already in the trash the deletion is instant and permanent.
As emails may have attachments not copied to the calendar event this could delete critical data without remedy.
