Option to sort contacts by first name

Currently there are two options for how contacts are displayed:

First name Last name
Last name, First name

I am glad that I can select the option "First name Last name" because that is how I want it to display.

However, in the actual contact list, it still sorts by last name.

Basically right now my options are:

Carl Dobbs
Ben Eliot
Abby Fritz

or:

Dobbs, Carl
Eliot, Ben
Fritz, Abby

But what I want is:

Abby Fritz
Ben Eliot
Carl Dobbs

I have a lot of contacts where I really only know their first name and I want to look them up by that first name.

Another workaround would be to add a search function so I can look up that first name instead of hunting for it.
