Outlook IMAP syncing problem

I used to download my emails through POP to Outlook, but recently changed over to IMAP. Since then sometimes new emails dont appear in Outlook but when i log in to the webmail i see plenty of new emails. I restart outlook and press the sync button again but nothing happens.
After sendning a new email suddenly the new emails appears. Why is that?
The same problem 
No connection
Real-time notifications may not work
