trash auto-delete configuration does not work for me

I have configured auto-deletion for the Trash folder and according to the configuration all the emails older than 30 days should have been deleted automatically. But I still see all the emails that I've deleted and most of them are now almost around 40 days old.
It does not work for me or the deletion does not necessarily happen after exactly 30 days after the email is moved to Trash ?
