Support for recurring tasks for CalDAV would be really nice
Planned
Right now, if I add a recurring task on a CalDAV client and sync it to Mailbox, the recurring tasks get "flattened" to one time tasks. It would really help if this improved and back and forth recurring task syncing was enabled via CalDAV.

Yeah, this is really important especially for a good user experience on mobile

Any progress on this? Recurring tasks are a major part of task management and not having the possibility to have them recurring is a major setback. For yearly tasks, it's manageable, but for daily tasks, it's really awful.

I gave up because of this issue and switched to using nextcloud for tasks (and calendar and contacts). I now only use mailbox for email.

Might do that too. But it's a real bummer to pay for a service and then only have a fraction of it that properly works. It's also nothing new and not cutting-edge technology..

I support this request 100%. In other forums folks have written that "syncing" recurring tasks across platforms are disabled by Open Exchange (the service provider that mailbox.org contracts with), and that this problem may have been stated at some point by mailbox.org staff. Open Exchange's website states that its service has the ability to sync across platforms, which makes me wonder if this issue is deeper than what the forums are saying. Regardless, I imagine many (probably most) of mailbox.org's customers sync mailbox.org services with other applications. I hope mailbox.org realizes that syncing recurring tasks is a basic but critical feature for these use cases.

Yes, I also agree this is an important missing feature.

I appreciate there's probably factors outside of Mailbox.org's control but this is a very important function and without it, I can't seriously move away from the other platforms I'm trying to move away from. I want to use mailbox.org for as much as possible, and this is a serious impediment to that.

This is seriously annoying especially with ox sync that also bundles tasks with the app rather than having them separate. A possible option is a dedicated tasks app such as any.do but then things get more complex

Any idea if this is going to be fixed? I will move my accounts to another provider if it won't work soon

I agree. It's an essential feature, which I use all the time. It will be hard to move to mailbox without it. Mailbox.org seems great and I like the integration of things, but this is clearly an omission that needs to be addressed. Hopefully soon.

Same here – I'm considering moving away from Mailbox.org because of this issue. (It's almost perfect – it's just that I need tasks synchronization to work!)

16 months ago and only 35 upvotes at the time of my message. Clearly peoples focus isn't on task management. I'm trying to move away from Google but there are NO decent CalDav providers out there with good tasks integration. It's all "self hosting". Wish I could "find my home" with mailbox.org but I don't care that much about email (proton is better). I need the full CalDav package. Recurring Tasks are essential

Compared to what? This is a very light traffic forum. The highest voted thread is only 100 votes, and it's from 5 years ago. This is the 4th or 5th highest voted thread. In that context, it seems in relatively high demand.
And the reason a lot of solutions are self hosted is because when you only want to use cloud services, you are beholden to whatever they want to do. And they frequently don't care what you want unless it's something that appeals to the lowest common denominator "average" user. Niche usecases, powerusers, features that only a 3rd of users care about, they get abandoned.
Self hosting is where the real tools are for people who want to do things in exactly the way they want to do them. Cloud hosting is for people who don't care and accept what's given.

In OpenExchange's developer documentation for CalDAV Clients, there's this general limitation for tasks mentioned 😓:

Really important feature, please give the implementation priority! Otherwise mailbox is awesome.

Looks like recurring tasks are available in the new mailbox beta:) I'm not sure about synchronization between devices, because mailbox <-> tasks.org does not seem to work, but so far, great work devs!:)

Unfortunately the recurring events are left out from the caldav entries.
I used to self host my email and other stuff, and moved to mailbox.org partially because it supports tasks.
I still have to use the selfhosted caldav server, because this issue :(

I'm in the same boat as others due to lack or reoccurring tasks support. It seams like mailbox 8 support reoccurring tasks but when using a tasks client such as tasks.org app, then reoccurrence gets lost. So until this gets fixed, I am using the tasks.org as local only as I only really look at phone for tasks.

Same here. Still working with task.org locally, because the phone remains where I use tasks the most, but this remains a major drawback, because sync to the laptop would still make a world of difference. Really hoping this gets fixed soon!

I am thinking to move away from mailbox.org if they don't fix this problem.

Hi there,
thank you all for participating in this discussion. This helps us to improve mailbox! We really appreciate it. We are still waiting on an update form Open-Xchange regarding the support of recurring tasks. They assured us that they will implement it, but unfortunately they did not give us a time frame, so we can't say when this will be fixed. We are very sorry, that we can't communicate a specific time, but we hope that it will be implemented soon.
With kind regards
your mailbox team
