Unable to send: "Received middleware response contains wrong error code 500."

For days, now, using LibreWolf, Firefox, Edge, mobile and PC, cannot send a mime-encrypted mail.

Sending unencrypted from Evolution works fine.

Switching off "send encrypted" in settings does not help.

Please, help. I'm on Light plan.

A follow-up from the log:

Cannot find any hints anywhere. So, it's either stop using this service altogether or upgrading/paying more (for a service that stopped working out of the blue) in order to be able to get any help.

Hi,

mailbox.org does not support S/MIME in the web-client. S/MIME can only be used with an external e-mail client. The log excerpt you posted hints to a session problem. It seems that there are two sessions open at one time or that the log-out from the last session has not been successful.

Please post more information on what you are trying to do and the exact steps of what you are doing, so the forum and we can assist you.

All the best

Hi,

many thanks for your piece of advice! I'm using both Evolution client and web-interface. Do I always need to log out in Evolution before changing to web?

Hi,

you are very welcome. No, you don't have to log out of thje Evolution client. You only have to log out of the web-client, otherwise there can be issues with the log in or the session.

Now I've logged out of every web-client I can think of. Still the error persists.

Eventually, I had to upgrade my account from Light to Stardard to get access to support channel. They answered - very quickly - that the reason behind the above mentioned problem was that "Encrypted mails to contacts for whom you do not have a public key can only be sent in the STANDARD and PREMIUM plan. Unfortunately, this is not possible in the LIGHT plan."

In my opinion that should be stated more clearly on e.g. Price plans page. At least I had not gotten it before this. And lost months of usage of my Mailbox.org subscription.

I am here searching for a solution to this issue, which started as an issue in recentness. The above comment is disappointing because this used to work with the light plan. I've been customer for years on the base plan that preceded the light plan, and also the light plan following the switch. Unless I'm missing something, for them to change the capability is their right, but deceptive/dishonest in a bait and switch kind of way. I will now be migrating away from the mailbox.org to one of the many competitors in space due to the taste of badness this leaves.

I have the same problem. In my case, the email I'm trying to reply to shows a small PGP symbol, so shouldn't it be possible to send a reply? in your pricing overview, I see a green check at "Guard: PGP in web mailer" also for the light plan.

@mailbox.org Support: If the issue is related to the discussion above, can you please at least adapt the error message to sth. that explains the actual issue. E.g. "Sending encrypted emails not supported in the light plan."

And also please adapt your pricing overview to reflect the truth.

If it's not related to S/MIME, is it a bug? Please provide help. I'm using Safari.
