every time I try to set up 2FA I have to reset my password and it doesn't get applied.

I've tried a couple of times to set up 2FA for the web ui. Every time I do so I follow the instructions and then log out. When I try to log back in, it doesn't recognise the existing password nor does it ask for the OTP. I then have to ask for a password reset and 2FA is still not set.

Your new password is basically a PIN code you set and OTP code added in with no separator between. Your old password is not involved in process of logging in. It's all in the documentation but I can definitely see how confusing this is because I were confused at first as well.
