How can I get an ical link for my calendar?

Hello! This link produces iCal data when accessed through a calendar application. What do you mean when you say it's not a "real" iCal link? Which calendar app are you using?

with a google ical link (*.ics) this works. with the link from the steps above it cannot be imported

FYI I had trouble subscribing to the Mailbox.org calendar link from Outlook on the Web (OWA) due to a particularity in how OWA sends the request. I opened a support ticket with Mailbox.org, but I'm still waiting for a response.

I assume the problem you're experiencing is similar to mine when trying to use OWA.

To give a little bit of background:

The link generated by Mailbox.org is supposed to work both in the browser as well as in calendar apps. The idea seems to be that when opening it in the browser, it would return an HTML page (i.e., a website). And when opened in a calendar app, it would return iCal data.

However, the latter only works if the requesting calendar app actually sets some HTTP headers correctly; specifically, it must send the "Accept: text/calendar" header. I suspect that OWA and, in your case, discord, do not do this. So they get served the HTML page instead of the iCal data they expect.

Like I said, I have opened a support request with Mailbox.org, and will report back as soon as I have received a response. I believe the easiest solution would be to provide users with a separate link that always returns an iCal file and doesn't depend on the HTTP headers being set correctly.

The trick is to append ?ical=true to the link generated by Mailbox.org

That is, if the share link is

https://share.mailbox.org/ajax/share/...

you need to turn it into

https://share.mailbox.org/ajax/share/...?ical=true

and use this in OWA, Discord etc. This will return valid iCal data.

Hi, does this still work for you for google calendar? I tried subscribing to the link generated and appending ?ical=true and google calendar doesn't find any calendar events.

The generated url is not even https://share.mailbox.org.. for me. It's https://office-sso.mailbox.org...

I tried to just edit the url to fit the same schema as discussed here. But does not work.

Really surprised that sharing a calendar feed is not a straightforward exercise with mailbox.org.

When I tried with the above links I had first shared the calendar with other members of my family group. I could workaround the issue by first removing all shares. Then

1. reshare only generating the ical link
2. Import the ical link in OWA
3. reshare with the member of my family group

Turned out that the issue was not related to how the calendar was shared but that ical shares with private events cause issues. If there are no private events in the calendar shared with ical things work as expected in the Outlook Web App even without appending `ical=true`.

I managed to import the link as per the above into both Outlook web and Outlook client, however, if I make any changes in my Mailbox calendar they are not replicating across - I need to remove and re-add the calendar to see the updates - is that also what you're seeing?

For clarity, I did not use the ical=true suffix as Outlook did not appear to like that at all!
