Need Answer

hi,

recently i am unable to access my mailbox account from Claws-Mail on my desktop. now, the web interface is the only way to do so.

i was wondering if there are other subscribers using the same Claws-Mail client and willing to share their experience, specifically how it's setup.

cheers;

Hello,

I am not a Claws-Mail user but I installed it to see if it worked and it does. It doesn't auto-detect server configuration so you have to do it yourself using the information provided by mailbox.org (Gear icon > Connect your device > Windows PC > Mail).

I ticked the "Use TLS" box for the IMAP setup since mailbox.org says to use SSL/TLS. Claws-Mail then complains about an unknown TLS certificate which you can accept and save.

To send mails, I had to go back into Configuration > Edit accounts > Edit your account > TLS tab > Send (SMTP) tick "Use TLS", because it defaults to "Don't use TLS (but, if necessary, use STARTTLS)" when setting up the account and you apparently can't change it during that initial setup. It then also complains about the unknown TLS certificate for the SMTP server but you can save it like for the IMAP server.

Cheers,
William

hi William,

thanks for taking the time to share. much appreciated!

i've been using CM now for over a decade, and became a Mailbox subscriber little over a year. only recently started to have problems. i should clarify that while i can access the receiving (IMAP) side, it's the sending (SMTP) side that is no more working reliably. i should also clarify that sometimes i'm able to send when the message is short. that happens very rarely though. most of the times the operation fails after a certain delay (socket timeout configurable in CM) with a 'session timeout'.

i also tried other mail clients like KMail and Thunderbird on my desktop with similar result. also tried from my Android phone. same result.

all this lead me to believe it's some filtering rule somewhere in between my laptop and phone and the SMTP Mailbox server(s).

until i find a solution, i'm reluctantly using the (slowwww) web interface.

thanks again for your effort + time!

Oh I see, I misunderstood the problem and assumed it was a client config issue.

I'm afraid I cannot provide much more help then, although it is intriguing. You said you tried on Android with K9, does it mean you tried using cellular network or did you only try over wifi on the same access point as your laptop ?

Have you tried using a VPN and/or proxy ?

no. it's definitely not configuration parameters related.

i guess i should've changed the title of this entry but i don't know how, or if it's even possible to do so.

the frustrating bit is that sometimes (i say 1% of the times but that's not statistically accurate, just a figure of speech) it works and most of the time it does not. the times it works the messages are short --SMS like :)

didn't think of trying thru a vpn! excellent idea. will try that next.
