Push Notifications Stopped Working

Zach K shared this problem 52 days ago

Sometime in the last few weeks iOS Mail push notifications have stopped working for me. I have verified my iOS mail settings are still set to push for all folders of my mailbox. Any other users experiencing this? For me it seems specific to iOS (push works on my other devices running Fedora 41 and Thunderbird as the client).

It seems that other users are experiencing this issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/Mailbox_org/comments/1gs4n7k/push_notifications_not_working/

I can confirm I am seeing the same issue here.

For some days I also encounter the same issues.

Sometimes it’s working again temporarily but in general the push notification is not working for me as well.

Edit:

Just found this article (unfortunately in German).

Apparently it seems to be an issue of iOS 18.

Will check the workarounds this evening.

Unfortunately no. I'm on iOS 16 and it still does it, along w Android clients as well. Mailbox are just trying to pass the blame when its clearly on their end & they've done something that broke things.

What that is?? Who knows, they won't say, give us insights on alternative ways to connect, etc. We pay for this so deserve answers.

Same issue here. Have removed and re added the account in mail settings several times, nothing doing. This is extremely frustrating.

Thanks but I have a gmail account that works just fine. So idk how this is not a mailbox issue.

Yes, my Fastmail was still working too. But obviously mailbox.org is not the only provider that has problems with Apple push notification. I think the main issue is that Apple is restricting what you can do with your overpriced hardware and enforces proprietary(?) features. And mailbox.org is claiming that they push notifications are sent.

Hi,

thank you very much for your posting. I understand that this is frustrating. We are currently working on solving this issue. Apple has made some changes that affect IMAP Push. As of now Apple accepts our Push messages and their servers are answering with a 200-OK message, but they are not forwarding those Push messages. We have contacted Apple and we are in contact wiht other mail-services that are also affected by this behaviour, and we hope that we can find a solution soon.

With kind regards

your mailbox.org team
