Upgrade to OX App Suite v8.x
Dear forum,
Open-XChange published version 8 of the OX App Suite, the backend behind the mailbox.org email and collaboration services, in November 2023. The 8.x version has great overall improvements to the user interface in both looks and functionality. I think it looks better than Outlook.com or gmail.com. Minor upgrades have been provided and the most current version is v8.35.
At the time of posting this topic, Mailbox.org is still on version 7.x, which in my humble opinion is very outdated - an opinion I believe will be shared by most users, private and business.
My question: Does mailbox.org have any plans to upgrade to the newest version? If so, can the timeline for that be shared? If there are no upgrade plans, how does Mailbox.org plan to improve the user interface and functions in the near future?
I'd encourage Mailbox.org leadership to be open about this. Even if the exact planning is still unknown, at least give some planned milestones for when certain upgrades will take place. I think your customers deserve this level of openness from your company.
I would like to know this because I currently evaluating mailbox.org for my direct and possible extended family.
Thanks!
Hello.
Yes, we are indeed working intensively on the update to version 8 of Open XChange. I can understand that you can hardly wait for us to release the new version.
As there is a very complex infrastructure behind it and we first have to make sure that it meets your and, of course, our requirements in terms of data protection and functionality, the implementation takes time.
We can't give you an exact date yet, but keep your eyes open as we will be announcing this step in the near future and you will be able to test it intensively via our beta program.

I second this. I've been trying to decide whether to stay with Mailbox and, quite frankly, it's becoming difficult to justify when other services are available. I'm glad to see that 2FA is being introduced, though that has been available in most email services for years, but why is it taking so long to move to the updated version of Open Xchange?
9 months ago they wrote that they are working on it. It would be helpful and respectful to existing customers to update us on this and to give us some sense of the timeframe involved.

Maybe Open Xchange is the wrong product? Will we see OpenXchange 8 before the release a new major version? Open Xchange 8.10 was released more than TWO years ago and the current 8.x release is 8.36. Don't use software that you cannot update/maintain. Or at least backport fixes/improvements from the 8.x versions. :-)
