Thunderbird fails to login to SMTP server

when I try to send an email from Thunderbird, login to SMTP settings fails.

I am using the settings from https://kb.mailbox.org/en/private/faq-article/setup-other-e-mail-clients-manually/ (see smtp_settings.png)

The failure message is "Login to server smtp.mailbox.org with username alifeee@alifeee.net failed"

it has worked in the past, and I haven't changed the settings, so I don't know what's wrong.

I have also tried switching to the alternative SMTP settings, with no luck.

I am sure that I am typing/pasting the correct password. I have also tried deleting and re-adding the account to Thunderbird.

1. Is this your login name or just an alias?
2. Do you use the new Login 2.0 with 2FA? Have you created an e-mail app password?

1. it's my login name, that's all good
2. I do!!! I turned on 2FA a couple of weeks ago and created an app password for something that sends emails, but… I didn't make the connection that I'd have to reset my Thunderbird password too! I've done it, and it works fine now.
