Encrypt E-Mails that were imported

Need Answer

I have migrated to mailbox.org and using thunderbird I can export/import all my EMails.

However, I want to use the encrypted mailbox(using my own PGP-Key). Incoming mails are properly encrypted serverside and properly decrypted on thunderbird, but I can't seem to encrypt my imported mails. I've read that I should just move the mails to the sent directory, that doesn't seem to trigger the encryption.

Is there a mailbox.org way to encrypt old unencrypted mails?

If not that would be a big problem, do you know a way to do that reliably for my old mails?

Hi,

thank you for your inquiry. The encrpytion is triggered by our sieve-filters that means the e-mails have to pass through our sieve filters. You can set up both your accounts in an external client and drag and drop the e-mails into the INBOX-folder. This way the e-mails pass through our sieve-filters and are encrypted.

With kind regards

Your mailbox.org team

I am migrating from Tutanota to Mailbox. Because of how tutanota works, I can only export EMails in the EML format. I can also import them in Thunderbird correctly, however when I move them to mailbox, they're simply not encrypted. I do have a sieve-filter that correctly encrypts other mails, but the mails I've uploaded are simply not encrypted. Are there any more requirements, like:

1. Do I also have to move my domain to mailbox, so the sieve filter maybe detects my e-mails correctly?

2. Do I have to wait a long time? I tested only with one mail and also waited a couple of minutes, was this not long enough?

3. Do I have to mark my mails as unread?

I have the same issue. I also tried first importing a mail message to a subfolder, marking the message as unread, then moving it to the Inbox. This also didn't trigger the sieve filter. I have contacted support, will post back if we've found a solution.

I've found a way to encrypt existing emails using a script and I've documented it here:

Hope this helps.
