Query about subdomains and catch all

Hi folks,

I'm looking at transferring my domain's email over to mailbox but I had a query about subdomains first.

With my current provider I have been using subdomains to separate out emails I receive based on their type, for example bookshop@shopping.mydomain.com, apodcast@newsletters.mydomain.com; and this provider’s catch all service for mydomain.com will deliver emails sent to any subdomains to my default email address.

Does mailbox catch all work in the same way, or would each subdomain need to be set up as a separate domain in its own right?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

thank you for your inquiry. You will have to add every subdomain like your normal domain to your DNS-record as described here:

https://kb.mailbox.org/en/private/custom-domains/using-e-mails-with-a-custom-domain/

After that you can filter the incoming e-mails with Sieve filters as described here:

https://kb.mailbox.org/en/private/e-mail-article/can-i-use-sieve-mail-filtering

You could also do this with e-mail-aliases, which is less complicated, because you would not have to set up every subdomain in your DNS, but you would just add another alias in the settings of mailbox.org as described here:

https://kb.mailbox.org/en/private/account-article/what-is-an-alias-and-how-do-i-use-it

We hope this answers your question.

With kind regards

your mailbox.org team
