Spreadsheet data loss

I have a spreadsheet in my Mailbox environment that I have been updating through the user portal on a weekly basis for the past 6 months. Since the December 2 update, I have noticed on 2 instances that my revisions disappeared!

First I looked inward and blamed myself. So after noticing data loss on December 4th or 5th, I thought I did something wrong. I made the revisions again, checked if autosave was enabled, closed the file and came back to check - looked good... But then it happened again on december 9!

Anyone else noticed suspicious data loss? This is VERY alarming.

Can a moderator move this to "problems"?

Sorry to hear this. I've experienced data loss in documents from time to time as well. It's always incredibly frustrating.

Try this if you haven't already: go to the Drive application, click the gear icon on the top right, check "file details" under view options, find and select your spreadsheet but don't open it, then on the file details panel to the right navigate to versions, and experiment with different older versions to see if any of your lost data was preserved in a previous version (assuming you have file versioning enabled). Then you can make that old one the current version.

Another option (and it's crazy that this needs to exist as a workaround in the first place) is to have the OX Drive application running and manually syncing on your computer from time to time so that even if the web app nukes your document data on a particular file, you can still access the most current version (not yet synced and messed up) on your physical hard drive (and upload it to the web as the most current version).

Hope that helps!

Thanks so much for the time you took to write this. Let me reply:

Checking the file revision history also crossed my mind today and I did so hours ago. It looks like the revisions are completely gone (it says 28 november last revision, this is factually false). So it seems the revisions are simply gone.

Since this happened, I've also grown very suspicious and thought of using extra backups to prevent this - and as you said yourself - it would be very sad if this would be necessary. For now I'm only using the cloud environment as I'm running macOS 12 which does not support OX drive.

I strongly believe this problem is caused by December 2 update of Mailbox webapp because

  • I never had this issue before december 2
  • I also can't create new documents, when I try, the screen in the browser jumps back to dashboard without top icons

This troubles me: "I also can't create new documents, when I try, the screen in the browser jumps back to dashboard without top icons." If I were you, I'd 1) check active logins in security settings and ensure 2FA is enabled 2) ensure your web browser is fully up to date or try experimenting using mailbox with a different browser 3) upgrade your plan to access mailbox support services and reach out to them if you're not already on that tier.

Perhaps someone else on the forum can help, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
