How do I change the PGP key with the new e-mail encryption settings?

How do I change the PGP key with the new e-mail encryption settings? E.g. if at some point I lost the old one or for some other reason wanted to use a new one for PGP at rest?

I don't really want to use an addon, I don't really understand the new option. When I activate it, it doesn't show me any form to enter a key either. I just can't read my mail using the webmail. I'm missing the old form where you could just paste a key.

Dear k234525,

thank you for clarifying the issue! My apologies, there was a misunderstanding on my side.

Is this the setting you are looking for?

Isn't being able to change the key a very basic functionality? What if my key gets compromised? It would be nice to have some feedback on this.

Just in case it wasn't clear, I attached a screenshot of the setting I'm concerned about. This used to allow me to change the PGP key. I don't want to install some strange browser addon, this isn't a safe thing to do, addons aren't sandboxed and I don't want to use whatever the addon provides. (No offense intended to those who like the addon, all power to you.) So how would I change the PGP as before, without any addon?

Dear k234525,

thank you for your message!

Please kindly check if the following menu option is available to you:

d80ea6be902fe622673e2459ea08974e

Caution: If you delete a PGP key, you will no longer be able to open emails or files encrypted with this key. Therefore, we recommend creating a backup of the key in a secure location (see https://kb.mailbox.org/en/private/encryption/backup-pgp-key/).

For further information, please refer to our knowledge base, e.g.

https://kb.mailbox.org/en/private/encryption/pgp-key-management/

Please let us know in case you have any further questions.

Kind regards

Thank you so much for your response. Sadly, I don't have the sort of setting you're showing:

7bffa8f8c6bf703abdf7d330d830b4f1

Please note I don't want to upload my private key to mailbox.org, even if encrypted with a password. I merely want to be able to change my public key for AutoPGP, without any addon or any of the other distractions. It seems like perhaps in the redesign, this simple use case was simply forgotten. Will this be fixed at some point?

I activated mailbox Guard now with a random password and the key section shows this:

47bfc7e4a2ce228c86aa9ec7b1cca2f1

The problem is that this key listing seems to be completely wrong and nonsensical. It shows keys generated today, in February 2026. However, any incoming mail is still (as I want it to) encrypted with the public key generated in 2024. This key that is actually used is listed nowhere, as far as I can tell. The entire UI seems to be completely divorced from the reality of what the AutoPGP backend is doing for me, which obviously makes me rather anxious about how I can change anything now without breaking things even more.

It seems like the migration path from legacy settings isn't working correctly.

Thank you so much, that's the one. I'm glad at least this problem was just me being silly, and there actually still is a working setting for it.
