OX Drive on Windows is constantly pausing and is unclear what its doing

I'm a recent convert to mailbox.org but I am a bit disappointed with OX Drive. One of the problems is that it automatically pauses itself even though I never asked it to. It seems to do it randomly, or when my machine is started up.

This is really annoying behavior and I don't understand why it happens.

Combined with the fact that OX Drive is really bad at telling you what it is synchronizing. You need to be a developer to find the logfiles in order to understand what it is doing. Why is this? Why don't you have a clear UI telling you clearly what is being uploaded and how far along it is? Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive have this feature. It's really isn't rocket science.

Is OX Drive Open Source? Is there somewhere where I can contribute?

Oh sorry I meant to report a Problem not an Idea. Apologies!

Ah I found the way to change it to a Problem.

The lack of response is very telling.

Based on your description, it sounds like you're referring to Ox Drive for desktop. If you click on the little tray icon it should show you the synchronization status as it updates. For example:

  • Directory 2/10
  • File 3/30
  • Time remaining 45 seconds

As for it pausing, I'm unclear why this is happening. Have you tried disabling autostart in Ox Drive settings? Another thing to try would be checking with support (if you can) if your server settings are correct. Sometimes the mailbox Knowledge Base articles aren't as accurate or up to date as they could be. Finally, this isn't ideal, you could attempt uninstalling and reinstalling Ox Drive. Of course, be sure the app is fully up to date.

My best guess, based on past experiences, is that your server settings are incorrect. If you aren't having internet connection problems elsewhere, it's likely a server setting issue.

I hope some of this was helpful. I always appreciate it when people on the forum respond to my posts.

Correction. You found a bug. 🐛 Tested and confirmed, this is happening on my end as well. After synchronizing successfully, and remaining opened and running, OX Drive does the following:

1. Changes status from "Synchronized" to "Synchronization paused"

2. Shows the following message in the Notifications tab "The remote name could not be resolved: app.mailbox.org"

3. Resuming synchronization "fixes" it for a few minutes, until it breaks again.

Good work reporting this. Now we just need support's eyeballs on it. I suspect they'll check the forum and post here with a response.

Thank you for responding. The little tray icon says nothing. If I click on the tiny cog I see the preferences but I'm none the wiser. I'm using 2.17.3 (#1499).

I'm using mailbox.org.

Ok I followed your suggestion of reinstalling and the tray now says something. Let's see if it keeps working.

I'm not very impressed with the cloud drive overall. I don't think I'll be extending my subscription when it runs out.
