Allow longer contract duration than 12 months

Defiant Mistave shared this idea 23 days ago
Under Consideration

Hey, any chance you guys could please allow us users to buy Mailbox subscription for more than 12 months at a time? Currently it's possible to pay for only 1 month or 12 months in "All settings > Contract and payment > Payment" after logging in. I would possibly like to buy a longer subscription than 12 months. Perhaps add an option to choose 24 months or maybe even 36 or more?

Thank you for your consideration.

P.S. If I currently want to buy more, can I stack up 12 month periods multiple times?

Hello Defiant Mistave,

thank you for your posting.

Currently, you can stack up 12-month periods multiple times if you would like to extend your contract for longer than one year. Alternatively, you can transfer the corresponding amount for the desired time frame, e.g. €60 for 2 years Standard plan (old price for existing customers before July 15 if payment is made within the current offer).

You can find more details on the price plan changes in our Knowledge Base: https://kb.mailbox.org/en/private/faq/price-plan-changes/

We appreciate your feedback and will forward it internally for further consideration.

Kind regards

Better yet, bring back the 3 year contract option with a deeper discount for lock in loyalty, AND private crypto payments for customers with higher threat models.

Greetings and thank you for taking the time to reply to my request.

I've actually wanted this feature for a while, but the recent price change has convinced me that this is likely a good time to voice my request. While the price increase isn't technically a major factor for my request, the real reason I'm asking is because I find the current process rather cumbersome. Not only does the website not offer contracts longer than 12 months, it is also not immediately clear how exactly this procedure is supposed to work. I have already gone through the process of extending my current mailbox contract for another 12 months. I had to request a contract renewal via the online web form, and I chose wire transfer as the payment option. This has resulted in my inbox receiving an email with banking details, including a unique IBAN that is supposedly tied to my mailbox.org account.

I am sorry for the confusion, but until the >12 month feature is added, could you kindly explain the contract stacking in a bit greater detail? Because banks tend to charge processing fees for each transaction, so it would be easier, if we can just do a single wire transfer with a bigger amount rather than doing several smaller ones. If I understand you correctly, you're saying that it's OK to request a 12-month contract extension via the online form (30 EUR for standard), and then wire an arbitrary amount like 60 EUR to the provided unique IBAN, and the system will properly detect this and extend the contract by 2 years instead of one?

What's the maximum amount we can order in this manner e.g. can I place an order for 10 years in advance (300 EUR)?

Thank you and kind regards!

Would be great to see an answer to this before the transition period ends, please.

Yes, this is exactly how it works.

There is no limit here.

Hello,

I was similarly surprised to see that I needed to take action to extend my contract. Most subscriptions these days, including the domain I use for my email, are happy to autorenew and trigger the payment if means of payment are defined in the system. As long as this is done in a transparent way (informing people about the transaction, costs, effective period and cancelation deadlines), I think this is the most user friendly way of dealing with this.

I hope you take this feedback into consideration too.

Best regards,

Sergio

Greetings again.

I confirm that the payment method described by the mailbox support works. I am a subscriber of the standard package (30€/y currently), and paying N*30€ has extended my contract duration by N years even though I only ordered 12 months.

Thank you and kind regards.
