i continue to receive emails sent to deleted alias

I no longer wish to receive emails sent to an alias. So I deleted it. However, I continue to receive emails sent to it even though it doesn't appear as part of my alias'.
I've read the faq. It doesn't help. They still slip in

Our supporters will take care of your request.
You can access the header by by choosing the e-mail in you inbox. Then please click on the ☰-symbol and choose View source. Please copy the text shown in the pop-up and send it to me.
