2fa does not appear to be working except on the web client

  1. I set up 2fa on a new account. Logged out of the web client and then logged back in. Works as expected--authentication is required after entering my credentials, and my TOPT is requested and works. Great.
  2. Then I created dedicated app passwords for Thunderbird/IMAP, webdav and DAVx5.
  3. Thunderbird, webdav, and DAVx5 all reject the dedicated app passwords I created, but they DO accept my regular password without any issue (and without any 2fa).

It is not the expected behavior that I can log in to IMAP and DAV services with my normal password. It renders having 2fa meaningless!

I have a similar issue, only the regular password won't work either for me. As soon as I enabled 2FA DAVx5 was unable to connect with the server. That was expected, but creating an app password for the service didn't solve that. I've tried to setup the account anew without succes, not with either of 2 app passwords I created, nor with my old password, nor with the special ursername (nnnnnn@nnnnnn with n being numbers) with either of the passwords.

I have the same problem since switching to new authenticator based MFA. Have created new app-password for iPhone Mail app and tried that but still prompts for a password. Have contacted support - no contact for 3 days and 1 day in the ticket was closed. I have reopened. Mailbox - please get on top of this!

BTW I did get app-password working in Thunderbird - SMTP settings attached. Just standard normal password setting.

Sussed it - existing iOS Mail account does not give you options for outgoing/incoming etc. I deleted it and setup from scratch choosing Other as provider then following these instructions with app-password for password: https://kb.mailbox.org/en/private/e-mail-article/setup-with-mail-app-for-ios/

How to revert the login 2? It's horrible, another day(s) of my life wasted on IT issues. Once I changed, I was shocked to realize I need 5 (!!!!!) passwords, out of them only 1 I can define. Getting errors across all devices and subservices with endless time needed to fix. This is truly shocking.

Hi mailboxer,

thank you very much for your feedback. We really appreciate it. We are very sorry that you are not satisfied with the Login 2.0.You only need the different passwords if you use 2FA with Login 2.0. Without 2FA, you don't need to set dedicated mail- or app-passwords.

We don't currently plan to allow you to choose your own app passwords, but we'll be happy to submit this as a feature request to our product managers.

If you have any further questions, please contact our helpdesk here: https://support.mailbox.org. Alternatively, you can send an email to helpdesk@mailbox.org. Our support team will take care of your request.

With kind regards
